MEET SHAYNA

FOUNDER & Instructor

Hi! I’m Shayna, founder of Pilates of Coronado. Born and raised in Southern California, I started my athletic career at just 9 years old, first as a competitive gymnast, then an NCAA Platform Diver at the University of Arizona. Years of training came with years of injuries: a bulging C5 disc, fractured L5 vertebrae, stress fractures, ankle injuries, and more.

After college, when the physical toll of years of elite athletics finally caught up with me, I discovered Pilates. It became my anchor—helping me heal, rebuild strength, and move with confidence through each chapter of my life as an athlete, a wife, and a mother of two.

I’ve now been teaching Pilates for 13 years and have had the privilege of helping people manage chronic pain, recover from injuries, and reconnect with their bodies in ways that feel empowering and sustainable. Since moving to Coronado 13 years ago it has been my dream to build my vision of a true, traditional Pilates studio. After years of planning, I’m excited to bring this vision to life!

Opening Pilates of Coronado is my way of giving back to a community that already feels like family. My kids go to school here, we’ve built our lives here, and I’m deeply committed to serving this island for the long run. This studio isn’t just a business—it’s a space built with intention, heart, and the belief that movement can truly change lives.

Here’s to moving with purpose and growing stronger together, Coronado.

OUR CORE VALUES

Balance

01

We honor balance in every form from balanced movement patterns, balanced intensity across classes, and balance in life. Offering multiple class formats ensures you are getting a well-rounded practice that supports strength, mobility, cardiovascular health, restoration and joy.

02

Holistic Wellness

Movement is just one piece of whole-person wellbeing. By collaborating with wellness practitioners and creating pathways to support clients beyond the studio, we advocate for wellness that goes deeper than a workout.

03

Kindness

Kindness shapes the culture of our studio, from how our instructors cue and support you to the way people feel when they walk in. We lead with compassion, patience, and encouragement, creating a space where everyone feels welcome and seen.

04

Intentionality & Safety

Every movement, sequence, and class is purposefully designed. We teach with precision, prioritizing alignment, proper form, and safe progressions. Our instructors offer hands-on support and personalized cueing to ensure each client moves efficiently and without strain. We value intelligent movement that cultivates awareness and leads to meaningful, lasting change. It’s quality over quantity, always.

05

Clear Communication

Clear communication is essential in our studio because it builds trust, supports safely, and ensures everyone feels understood.  For instructors, it means giving concise, personalized cues and handling scheduling with courtesy and flexibility. For clients, it encourages questions and open dialogue so YOU, the client feels confident and heard. And for studio management, it keeps the team aligned, reduces confusion, and creates a seamless, consistent experience from booking to checkout.

06

Personal Connection & Community

Smaller class sizes allow for deeper connection and personalized attention. Clients feel known, by name, by body, by story. Our studio is intimate, uplifting, and community-driven. People don’t just show up to work out; they show up to feel supported.

Why Choose Pilates?

People come to Pilates for all kinds of reasons. Some want to get stronger or feel more flexible—others want better posture, less pain, or a way to manage stress. Pilates supports all of that through intentional, controlled movement. By focusing on core strength, alignment, and mobility, Pilates can help decompress the spine and relieve chronic back tension. And because it’s low-impact and adaptable, it’s a safe and effective movement practice for every age, body, and experience level.

But the magic of Pilates goes beyond physical results. There’s a mind-body connection that happens when you tune into what you’re feeling, where your body is in space, and how you’re moving. Learning new movement patterns challenges the brain, improves coordination, and builds mental focus. Clients often leave class feeling calmer, clearer, and more grounded than when they arrived.

At Pilates of Coronado, we use the reformer as our main piece of equipment. The springs and pulleys create smooth, controlled resistance that helps build strength, improve bone density, and support joint health—all without the strain that can come from traditional weight training. Rather than bulking or compressing the body, reformer work emphasizes elongating the muscles, increasing flexibility, improving mobility, and helping correct imbalances, which reduces the likelihood of future injuries.

Pilates isn’t just about looking strong—it’s about feeling good in your body and living with more ease, energy, and confidence.
